Yes! San Rafael Cub Scout Pack 101 is geared for students in grades K-5. Please send us a message at join@srtroop101.org and we will connect you with their Pack Leader.
Scouting is like any other pursuit in that you get out of it what you put into it, but there is no required minimum amount of time, attendance, or effort required. Many Scouts play sports throughout the year or have school commitments that pop-up and they are able to balance their Scouting journey alongside, without sacrificing their other interests. There is no pressure put upon Scouts to accelerate at a certain pace but some Scouts love it so much they seek to do as much as possible. Our Troop has a spectrum of commitment levels!
No. Troop 101 is a secular group and our programs and activities do not contain any religious content; however, we welcome Scouts of all religions to our Troop and they may incorporate their own spiritual practices into their personal scouting journey as they deem fit.
No. Scouting is for all genders. However, we do follow youth protection rules and if females join a Troop, there must be a female Scout leader present at all times. We currently have female Troop leadership so please reach out if you are interested. We also follow the Guide to Safe Scouting requirements for camping and other activities to ensure safety for all Scouts.
Scouting has had a rocky past but has since been overhauled to become one of the most stringent and diligent organizations for enforcing youth protection training and practices. All adults who interact with Scouts are background-checked and must complete an extensive Youth Protection Training every other year, as well as CA AB506. Scout leaders are mandated reporters and are trained in all aspects of preventing child abuse, bullying, and upholding digital safety. In addition to training, we practice many policies that help ensure Scouts are safe, such as Two Deep Leadership, which means there are always two registered and trained adults present at all times and on all communications with Scouts. We enforce strict separation of children and adults during camping activities, and separation of Scouts that are more than two years apart in age (for sharing tents.) We are happy to share more of the ways we take Scout safety very seriously to prevent physical and/or emotional harm.
